Happy tales from Camp Design! Advertising, Graphic Design, Culture
Today is the dedication of the newest building on campus, Newhouse III. Last night after a presentation, I got to walk around the new space while construction workers were putting on the finishing touches. I had been in the building during the day and it is pretty cool, but at night it is spectacular – even with drop cloths and stepladders. There is a Jenny Holzer-like wall installation that was really impressive. It appears to scroll the text of messages sent by alumni in these "stock ticker" displays. Also a giant wall mural where the CMYK benday dots are used to create the name NEWHOUSE. I think the architect really "got" the imagery of journalism and the world print and used it to create an extremely conceptual, aesthetically pleasing and special monument.
